Church History John Phillips Mather decided to build a church in 1864 as a memorial to his eldest daughter who died in that year. In March 1865 Lord Derby presented to the church authorities the land on which Christ Church now stands. The parish was established in 1865. Christ Church was consecrated on St. Luke’s Day 18 October 1866, a date we celebrate annually on the Sunday closest to the church’s birthday. Architecturally the building is typical of the Gothic revival. The church is built of sandstone. In 1925 Henry Willis and Sons designed and built the current three console organ. We have an organist who plays for weddings and funerals when required. There is also a peal of eight bells.
Facilities include Baby changing and an all gender disabled friendly bathroom.
Sunday services are 11am
Baptism services are the 4th Sunday of the month
Family Eucharist is the second Sunday of the month
